Navigating the R&I Funding Ecosystem: Strategic Approaches for Researchers

This two-hour workshop helps researchers develop a strategic understanding of the Research & Innovation funding landscape, from identifying the right opportunities to positioning their research more effectively before calls open.

About the program

Navigating the R&I Funding Ecosystem: Strategic Approaches for Researchers” is a thematic workshop designed to help researchers better understand how Research & Innovation funding works and how to approach funding opportunities with a more strategic mindset.

The session explores how funding priorities are shaped by European policy agendas, how different funding instruments operate, and what evaluators typically look for in competitive proposals. Participants will also reflect on how to align opportunities with their research profile, career stage, scientific ambitions, and long-term goals.

Organized by NOVA IMS within the scope of NexTCity, the workshop combines strategic framing, practical examples, and interactive discussion. It also addresses common weaknesses in applications, the importance of building visibility and collaboration networks before calls open, and the role of institutional support structures and funding information platforms.

The workshop will be led by Cristina Oliveira, Research Manager at MagIC, the NOVA IMS Research Center.
