Headerssite2025 Level3 (1)

With the research work “Hybrid Semiparametric Modelling of the Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extraction Process: Combining PDEs with Machine Learning”, NOVA IMS Ph.D. student Roshanak Agharafeie was distinguished with the Best Poster Award in Chemical Engineering at the 15th European Congress of Chemical Engineering (ECCE). The congress took place in Lisbon from 8 to 10 September 2025, in conjunction with the 8th European Congress of Applied Biotechnology (ECAB) and the 3rd Iberoamerican Congress on Chemical Engineering (CIBIQ).

Roshanak Agharafeie’s poster proposes a hybrid modelling approach that integrates partial differential equations with machine learning to improve the accuracy and efficiency of modelling the supercritical carbon dioxide extraction process, a technique of growing significance in chemical engineering and applied biotechnology.

Sponsored by the American Chemical Society (ACS), this award was conferred to only three posters in the ECCE category, among a total of 700 posters presented across the three congresses.

This recognition underscores the international relevance of the doctoral research being conducted at MagIC, reinforcing the centre’s contribution to advancing data-driven methods applied to complex scientific and technological challenges.
