This one-day session explores how intellectual property shapes research and innovation in academia. It focuses on practical aspects of protecting results, managing copyrights, and identifying opportunities for commercialization.

About the program

ImPact@NOVA: Protect, Publish, Profit – Navigating IP in Academia is a one-day program that helps researchers, PhD students, and staff understand how to manage and protect intellectual property in academic environments.

Organized by NOVA University Lisbon with the support of J. Pereira da Cruz, the program combines practical workshops, discussions, and networking moments with experts in intellectual property and technology transfer. Participants will explore NOVA’s internal IP disclosure procedures, copyright management in publications, software, and open science, as well as issues of patentability in biotechnology and computer-implemented inventions.

The program also highlights opportunities for commercialization, including spin-offs and licensing, and provides direct contact with NOVA’s Technology Transfer Officers and IP specialists.
