About the Project
Re.data - Research Data Management Network
The Re.Data project aims to establish Portugal’s first national Research Data Management (RDM) support network, strengthening research institutions' capacity to implement open science and FAIR data practices. The project supports the development of institutional policies, professional skills, and technical infrastructures to manage, curate, and share research data effectively and responsibly.
Through a coordinated approach across five leading universities and polytechnics, Re.Data fosters a networked community of practice to deliver services, training, and policy guidance aligned with the National Open Science and Open Research Data Programme (PNCA DAI) and the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).
At its core, Re.Data will create three national competence centers focusing on:
- Institutional policies on open science and RDM;
- Training and professional development for research data roles;
- Support for data curation and FAIR data implementation.
These centers will deliver a series of practical tools and services—including a Skills Builder Hub, national helpdesk, and data stewards network—to promote the long-term sustainability of open science practices in Portugal.
As part of its implementation, the project will:
- Develop a national framework for institutional RDM and open science policies, along with leadership training and a Special Interest Group for policy alignment.
- Launch a professional training programme with workshops, webinars, MOOCs, and train-the-trainer activities.
- Build a Skills Builder Hub with curated learning resources and self-assessment tools.
- Deliver a Helpdesk platform with integrated AI chatbot for institutions and researchers.
- Compile a catalogue of RDM tools, FAIR guidelines, metadata curation guidance, and toolkits for sensitive data and licensing.
- Engage with European and national stakeholders to ensure alignment with EOSC, OpenAIRE, and other infrastructures.
