About the Project
Agenda "Decentralising Portugal with Blockchain"
Blockchain is a fundamental technology for the digital transition of the economy and society. By 2027, 10% of global GDP is expected to be stored on blockchain, and by 2030, the use of blockchain technology could add $3 billion to international trade. PwC estimates that blockchain technologies could boost the global economy by $1.76 trillion by 2030, with public administration, education, and healthcare being the sectors that would benefit the most.
Despite this huge opportunity, Portugal has not yet fully embraced blockchain. In 2020, Portugal's blockchain ecosystem was assessed as having an average maturity level at the European level.
The "Decentralise Portugal with Blockchain" Agenda aims to create a national blockchain industry, with a vision of the importance of technology as a driver of innovation and the goal of taking advantage of the global business opportunities generated by this technology.
It brings together 56 organisations (24 companies, 15 ENESII, 2 Associations, 5 public entities and 10 associated partners), under the leadership of VOID Software, organised into:
6 vertical WPs, namely:
- Agriculture and Agri-Food;
- Health;
- Sustainable and Intelligent Territories;
- Sport, Leisure and Culture;
- New Knowledge Economy;
- Digital Asset Management;
and 4 horizontal WP:
- Management;
- Capacity Building;
- Innovation and Dissemination;
- Interoperability.
The results of these partnerships, with an investment of over 72 million euros, will make it possible to launch 26 products with high export and scalability potential.
The sector created in this Agenda will enable Portugal to become a European leader in this technology, helping the country to become more digital, green and resilient.
