About the Project
ENCOMPASS - ENergy COmplexity Mapping for Pathways to Advance Sustainable Systems
The ENCOMPASS project, coordinated by NOVA IMS, addresses the urgent need to advance sustainable energy systems by mapping the renewable energy value chain in Iberia. Supported by NOVA’s Interdisciplinary Research Community (NIRC) on Sustainable Energy Systems and funded by Galp, this initiative leverages economic complexity methodologies to provide strategic insights for the European Union’s Net-Zero Industry Act.
By integrating patent data, industry statistics, trade flows, and economic and demographic indicators, the project aims to:
- Identify Iberia’s unique capabilities in renewable energy manufacturing.
- Assess the feasibility and economic desirability of EU self-reliance in the renewable energy value chain.
- Provide data-driven policy recommendations to enhance industrial and technological pathways toward clean energy leadership.
Through a multidisciplinary approach, ENCOMPASS seeks to position Iberia as a key player in the EU’s sustainable energy transition, supporting energy independence and fostering technological innovation in renewable energy systems.
