Cátia Pesquita

Cátia Pesquita is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, where she coordinates the Masters in Data Science.

She is passionate about exploring the synergies between human and machine intelligence in generating scientific knowledge from data, and has made significant contributions in data analytics and integration with ontologies and knowledge graphs, with over 60 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and conferences.

She has been an invited international keynote speaker multiple times and has collaborated in several national and international research projects with academia, healthcare institutions, and industry. She is also involved in activities to promote computer and data science career paths to young women.


As Vice-Director of the LASIGE Computer Science and Engineering Research Centre, where she leads the Research Line of Excellence in Health and Biomedical Informatics, and Vice-President of the Biodata.pt, an association for the valorisation of the biological data generated by Portuguese Science, Catia is dedicated to promoting computer and data science as fundamental instruments in scientific research at large.
