It was on the 10th of January, that the conference "Digital Analytics for Hospitality & Tourism by TIA | PRR" was held at the Noble Hall, Colégio Almada Negreiros.

Nowadays, technological, quantitative and business knowledge skills form today what is called data science. An area that aims to gain insights, estimate and maximize business decisions through continuous iterative exploration of data. Nowadays, data science is used with great success in numerous industries.

In this conference you will learn how organizations linked to the hotel and tourism sectors are taking advantage of data science to optimize the decision-making process at all organizational levels (operational, tactical and strategic).

This conference was held in the scope of the TIA - Tourism International Academy (TIA | PRR) Project.

Miguel de Castro Neto is Dean of the NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS) at the Nova University of Lisbon. He founded and runs NOVA Cidade - Urban Analytics Lab, dedicated to smart cities and urban analytics. He was Secretary of State for Spatial Planning and Nature Conservation in the XIX and XX Constitutional Governments of the Portuguese Republic. He was considered Smart Cities Personality of the Year (Green Business Week 2017, AIP Foundation).

Roberto Antunes

Executive Director of NEST

Roberto Antunes is the Executive Director of NEST - Tourism Innovation Center Portugal.

Owning a degree in Economics at NOVA University of Lisbon and a post-graduation in Tourism Management in Estoril School, has a career of more than 20 years in multinationals in marketing roles and FMCG category leadership positions, both at local, regional a global levels. Since May 2019 is the executive Director of the newly established tourism innovation center, which he was invited to set up and coordinate, up until today.

Paulo Rita

Professor at NOVA IMS

Paulo Rita is a Full Professor of Marketing at NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS), Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Director of the Master in Data-Driven Marketing and the Post-graduate program in Business Intelligence and Analytics for Hospitality & Tourism. Professor Rita has PostDoc in Marketing (University of Nevada Las Vegas, US) and holds a PhD in Marketing (Cardiff University, UK). He is the author of publications in areas of digital marketing, social media, marketing analytics, consumer behavior and tourism marketing, with more than 8,500 citations in Google Scholar, and has published more than 100 articles in scientific journals.

Nuno António

Professor at NOVA IMS

Nuno António holds a Ph.D. degree in Information Science and Technology from ISCTE-IUL, a Master's in Hotel Administration and Management from the School of Management, Hospitality, and Tourism of the University of the Algarve, and a degree in Software Engineering from ISMAT. His main interests are Machine Learning, Text Mining, Data Mining, and Big Data in hospitality, tourism, and other fields.

Sérgio Guerreiro

Senior Director for Knowledge Management and Innovation do Turismo de Portugal

Sérgio Guerreiro is currently Senior Director for Knowledge Management and Innovation at Turismo de Portugal, being in charge of statistics, business intelligence, entrepreneurship, and innovation. He is also responsible for the program Tourism 4.0, an integrated program to foster innovation in the tourism sector involving more than 350 startups. At NOVA IMS, he is a visiting lecturer, teaching in the fields of International Tourism Management, Market Trends & Innovation.

Felipe Hadba

Head of Business Analytics da Hurb

Head of Analytics at the biggest online travel platform in Brazil. As the leader of the Analytics team at Hurb, he is responsible for structuring, developing, and coordinating the data analytics and analytics engineering groups, working with the company's leaders to understand problems and develop data-based solutions.

Inês Rico

Marketing Project Manager – Loyalty do Pestana Hotel Group

Inês Rico graduated in management (both her bachelor's and master's degree) from Nova School of Business and Economics. Furthermore, she studied at NOVA IMS for her post-graduation in Digital Marketing & Analytics. For her professional career, Inês has worked as a Digital Marketeer for the past five years. At NOVA IMS, she is an Assistant Professor of Digital Marketing & E-commerce.

Henrik Gerdin

VP Strategic Initiatives da d2o

Henrik Gerdin has 30+ years of professional experience in the hospitality business. Since 2009, works as a consultant at d2o, focusing on helping managers to achieve measurable and lasting operational excellence through smarter forecasting, staff, and food planning and execution. Today has the responsibility to suggest and deliver key strategic initiatives that will allow d2o to grow even further as well as enhance the customers' benefits.

Event Wrap Up

Under the scope of the TIA - Tourism International Academy (TIA | PRR) Project, the conference "Digital Analytics for Hospitality & Tourism by TIA | PRR" was held on January 10th, at NOVA IMS' Noble Hall. 

The event counted with the interventions of Miguel de Castro Neto, Dean of NOVA IMS; Roberto Antunes, Executive Director of NEST -Tourism Innovation Center; Sergio Guerreiro, Senior Director of Knowledge Management and Innovation of Turismo de Portugal; Felipe Amoedo Hadba, Head of Business Analytics of Hurb; Inês Rico, Marketing Project Manager of Pestana Group Hotel; Henrik Gerdin, VP of Strategic Initiatives of d2o, and Nuno Antonio and Paulo R., both professors of NOVA IMS. 

This conference featured a discussion with experts about the future of the tourism industry and the positive impact that data science has on optimizing the decision-making process in organizations.
