GeoTech Students Gain Real-world Insights into Land Management Tech at DGT Visit

Master's students from the GeoTech: Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies program delved into cutting-edge land management technology during their research-oriented visit to the Portuguese Directorate-General for Land (DGT) on January 29, 2024. Aligned with the MagIC "Geoinformatics" research stream, this experience gave them invaluable insights and connections to propel their study and research endeavours.

The program delved into key topics through informative talks and demonstrations, including:

  • National Spatial Data Infrastructure (SNIG)
  • National Cartographic Database
  • National System for Land Monitoring (SMOS)
  • Built-up Areas and Rural-Urban Interface
  • National System for Territorial Information (SNIT)
  • Exploration of Cadastral Information on the National Cadastral Information System (NCIS)

About “GeoTech: Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies”

Offered jointly by the University of Münster (WWU), Germany, the Universitat Jaume I (UJI), Spain, and the NOVA IMS, the GeoTech program equips students with the skills and knowledge to excel in the field. Contributing to the MagIC's mission to foster knowledge exchange, the program's curriculum emphasizes:

  • Leveraging cutting-edge geospatial technologies to address environmental and societal challenges through impactful research.
  • Establishing a global network of professionals and stakeholders, fostering research collaborations
  • Covering interdisciplinary topics like informatics, data analytics, remote sensing, and spatial statistics – core areas of expertise within MagIC.
  • Providing practical application through real-world projects, directly contributing to the MagIC research agenda and preparing students to become active participants in the field.
