MagIC researcher Professor Yasser Al Helaly participated in the third BEiNG-WISE Training School, held from 27 to 29 August 2025 in Litochoro, Greece. The event, titled “Cybersecurity and Human Factors from an Industrial and Ethical Perspective,” brought together early-career researchers and professionals from across Europe to engage with the socio-technical dimensions of cybersecurity.

Organised and funded under the COST Action CA22104 BEiNG-WISE, the training school addressed the growing need to embed human factors, ethics, and organizational resilience into the design and governance of digital systems. Sessions covered a wide range of topics, from wireless security and AI-enabled threat detection to the role of cognitive biases in security decisions and legality-by-design frameworks.

Professor Al Helaly joined the full three-day programme, actively engaging in lectures, lab sessions, and collaborative workshops. He contributed to group discussions and hands-on exercises that challenged participants to translate theoretical knowledge into practical approaches for secure and ethical system design.

“Participating in BEiNG-WISE was a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge with researchers from across disciplines and to reflect on how human behaviour, ethics, and design intersect in cybersecurity,” said Al Helaly. “It was especially valuable to connect with peers working on similar challenges at the European level.”

The event also featured sessions led by industry representatives and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), reinforcing the training school’s commitment to bridging research with practice. Held at the base of Mount Olympus, the setting fostered an open and collaborative atmosphere that extended beyond the formal programme.

Professor Al Helaly’s participation reflects MagIC’s ongoing engagement with European research networks and its commitment to advancing interdisciplinary approaches to cybersecurity education and capacity building.
