About the Project

BeyondScale - Developing the Organisational Capacity of Higher Education Institutions using the HEInnovate platform to facilitate peer learning and a pan-European community of practice

The BeyondScale project addressed the challenge of enhancing entrepreneurial and innovative capacities within higher education institutions (HEIs) to better connect them with their regional economies. Many HEIs struggle to align their organizational capabilities with the demands of entrepreneurship and innovation, limiting their ability to contribute to regional development and policy-making. BeyondScale sought to bridge this gap by leveraging the HEInnovate self-assessment tool to foster institutional transformation and collaboration.

The main objectives of the project were to strengthen the role of HEIs in regional ecosystems, improve organizational practices, and promote policy development in entrepreneurship and innovation. BeyondScale focused on creating a community of practice among HEIs and policymakers and developing actionable tools and methodologies. Key activities included the development of institutional case studies, user stories to document challenges and solutions, and the facilitation of workshops to encourage the exchange of best practices across partner institutions.

Partnership

The BeyondScale project was coordinated by WPZ Research GmbH (Austria) and included the University of Twente, Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (Netherlands), University of Ruse "Angel Kanchev" (Bulgaria), FH Campus Wien (Austria), Munster Technological University, Hincks Centre for Entrepreneurship Excellence (Ireland), Dublin City University (Ireland), NHL Stenden Hogeschool (Netherlands), Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo – IPVC (Portugal), Universität Innsbruck (Austria), and NOVA IMS.

This consortium united a diverse range of expertise from European institutions to address the challenges of fostering entrepreneurship and innovation in higher education.

Our Contribution

NOVA IMS contributed significantly to the BeyondScale project through its expertise in digital platforms and data-driven decision-making. NOVA IMS developed and implemented the Digi Buddy platform, an innovative tool designed to support HEIs in finding institutional partners and fostering collaboration across entrepreneurial ecosystems.

The institution also played a vital role in generating user stories, which documented real-world challenges and solutions from participating HEIs, and contributed to transnational reports that informed project guidelines and outcomes. By integrating data and technology into the project’s objectives, NOVA IMS ensured a robust framework for enhancing collaboration and organizational innovation within HEIs.
