About the Project

MagIC - Information Management Research Center

MagIC is a dynamic research center dedicated to advancing the field of Information Management through an interdisciplinary approach that combines Management and Data Science. Our mission is to investigate the dynamics of information and its interplay with human behaviour and organizational structures, to develop tools and methods to enhance informed decision-making and benefit individuals, organizations, and society.

Our team is comprised of 93 researchers, including 40 integrated members with a PhD, 34 doctoral students, and senior and junior collaborators from both Portugal and abroad. Over the past 5 years, MagIC has published 1070 contributions, with 83.7% in international scientific journals indexed in Scopus and WoS, and 45.8% with international collaborations. We are committed to open science, with 84,7% immediately accessible in our institutional repository.

MagIC's academic impact has been recognized internationally, with 10 out of 40 integrated researchers included in the World's Top 2% Scientists List from Stanford University, including 2 in the Highly Cited Researchers Index top 1% in the last 3 years, among other awards and distinctions.

Our strength lies in the robust synergy between our Management and Data Science Research Streams, which work together to address key organizational and societal challenges. Our research outputs contribute to enlightening existing phenomena and developing artefacts that support the theoretical modulation of reality.

MagIC also plays a key role in advanced training, with all of our integrated researchers combining teaching and research activities as university professors at NOVA IMS. In the 2018-2023 period, 49 PhD students graduated from the Doctoral Program in Information Management, all supervised by MagIC PhD integrated members, and 1596 MSc students have been qualified and inspired by MagIC to become the next generation of information management researchers.

Software acquisition

  • Survey and data analysis software: Qualtrics

This software will enable the design and implementation of advanced surveys, as well as the collection of data from multiple sources (including digital behavior analytics and social media), using artificial intelligence algorithms to extract deeper insights and generate evidence-based recommendations. The tool will reinforce MagIC’s analytical capacity in areas such as Education, Marketing, and Public Policy, supporting the development of explainable models, the identification of behavioral patterns, and the formulation of data-driven strategies, fully aligned with the 2025–2029 strategic plan and the digital transition.

  • Collaborative Scientific Writing Platform: Overleaf

Overleaf is a cloud-based collaborative writing platform that enables researchers to create, edit, and share scientific documents in real time using LaTeX. The platform supports efficient collaboration, version control, and seamless integration of references, facilitating the production of high-quality publications, project reports, and academic theses. At MagIC, Overleaf enhances research productivity, supports international collaboration, and contributes to the dissemination of scientific outputs across its Management and Data Science research areas.
